UAV Solutions
Customized solutions for unmanned aircraft
Through the use of light and compact SatCom equipment, SCOTTY’s UAV solutions provide the ability to go beyond the horizon. Although aircraft can rely on line-of-sight radio for take-off, landing, and when close to home, flying long distances or behind a hill requires SCOTTY’s UAV package in order to stay in touch. The SCOTTY UAV equipment, which combines SatCom, video compression, computer processing, and interfaces to sensors and onboard avionics, makes it possible to receive location info, monitor systems, transmit real time imagery, remotely control sensors, transmit commands, and update waypoints. Furthermore, because the UAV package is customized, users can work with SCOTTY to define the most suitable SatCom hardware, bandwidth, antenna options, and ground infrastructure. All transmissions can be made into the standard Internet or a VPN which is AES256 encrypted. And if the UAV is too small for a SatCom antenna, SCOTTY can provide roving repeater stations on the ground for beyond line-of-sight access back to headquarters.A typical UAV setup comprises of an omnidirectional SatCom antenna system, SatCom modem, and SCOTTY video compression unit with computer processor. Cabling, interfacing, and other equipment is then defined depending on the application, the equipment already onboard, size and weight restrictions. SCOTTY helps install, test, and recertify the platform and provides full mission support. On the ground, SCOTTY can help design a mobile control center or install equipment into briefing rooms, offices, etc.
SCP
SCOTTY Communication Platform
The SCOTTY SCP is both powerful and flexible. Powerful in that it is a fully certified Do160G unit which has been installed on hundreds of aircraft, including helicopters, for customers operating in hot dusty environments. Powerful because the SCP can compress HD video and transmit it over compact SatCom systems, and simultaneously support BlueForce tracking, moving map, tele-medicine, and other specialized software. The SCP is also flexible – its flange-mount design with onboard ventilation makes it easy to install on small aircraft. Flexible because it can be used over SatCom for video streaming, duplex videoconferencing, Internet, Windows applications, store and forward imagery transmission, even VoIP. Furthermore, the SCP, with its multiple audio, video, and data inputs and outputs is compatible to all kinds of cameras, headsets, intercom systems, radars, etc. The system can even transmit live video at data rates as low as 64 kbps – leaving more room on the SatCom connection for other applications. The SCP is perfect for VIP aircraft for virtual desk sharing and videoconferencing, for airborne surveillance, for tele-medicine, command and control, and can be customized and adapted to be used for unique applications for various kinds of customers – commercial, government, and NGO’s.With its computer processing and audio/video compression, the SCP is part of a complete airborne communications package which uses SatCom, line-of-sight comms, and the SCOTTY WAP. Its ability to connect to various kinds of peripherals as well as compact SatCom equipment has made it very popular among all kinds of customers. Government customers especially enjoy the SCP’s ability to establish AES256 encryption through a VPN or to be connected directly to mil-standard encryption units.
SCP SINA
SCOTTY Communication Platform powered by SINA
As a VPN gateway, the SCOTTY Communication Platform powered by SINA S is used as a central IT infrastructure core component of a secure network. The data exchanged between the SINA components is transmitted through encrypted VPN tunnels. The SINA L3 Box is an IP-based cryptosystem approved by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) for the transmission of information classified as VS-NfD, NATO RESTRICTED and RESTREINT UE. The SCP SINA also offers the SCOTTY package of live HD video, audio, and data communications, live broadcast of HD surveillance video, and transfer of still images. All of these applications can be done from the air, land, and high seas via satellite and terrestrial networks.
SCOTTY WAP LTE Gateway
Wireless Access Point / LTE Gateway connecting aircraft network to the world
The SCOTTY WAP LTE Gateway is part of aircraft connectivity and can provide a secure connection over different wide area networks (WAN). This DO160 G qualified unit is housed in a convenient flange-mount chassis and includes optional built-in antennas. It can be interfaced to a SatCom system to provide beyond line-of-sight connectivity, an LTE antenna to provide connectivity over 4G/5G networks, and to user terminal equipment connected either over secured WIFI or a LAN interface. There is even an analogue interface for the aircraft’s audio intercom as part of the VoIP application. Additionally, the SCOTTY WAP LTE Gateway has encryption options for securing user connections over WAN. The user can also use a dial pad interface to access the WAN and VoIP connection control. The SCOTTY WAP LTE Gateway’s software has been designed for easy use, access to all kinds of information, and in-depth configuration control. The web interface makes it simple for the administrator to configure the LTE, SatCom, LAN, WLAN, and VPN settings. The end-user can see aircraft position and attitude, manage and monitor network connections, define SIP calls, and configure encryption modes.Furthermore, the SCOTTY WAP LTE Gateway has been especially fine-tuned to address the challenges of aircraft flying in populated areas with many LTE towers. The system ignores smaller cells to stabilize the connection – this is especially important when streaming live video. Now aircraft can fly at highspeed in urban areas without cell hand-over overload. And, if the aircraft flies to an area with no LTE coverage, the SCOTTY WAP LTE Gateway will automatically switch to SatCom.
